The Children’s Advocacy Center of Hamilton County coordinates a compassionate, multidisciplinary response to child abuse. Every year, we serve over 1,000 children and families. We partner with law enforcement, the Department of Children’s Services, prosecutors, medical professionals, and victim advocates. Our work ensures that children are heard, believed, and supported throughout their healing journey.

The Opportunity

We’re seeking a strategic and mission-driven Director of Development to lead fundraising, marketing/communications, and prevention education programming for the CAC. This role is essential to sustaining our $1.5+ million operation. You’ll build the private support that fuels our work, tell our story in a way that inspires action, and lead a team that helps ensure every child we serve is heard, believed, and supported.

As a member of the senior management team, you’ll partner directly with the Executive Director on strategic and fiscal planning.

What You’ll Do

Leadership & Strategy

Provide leadership and supervision to Development Department staff, set long- and short-term department goals in partnership with the Executive Director, ensure agency programs meet professional, ethical, regulatory, and accreditation standards, and serve as liaison to Board of Directors committees and task forces.

Fund Development

Lead agency-wide fundraising strategy by cultivating and stewarding relationships with foundation, government, corporate, and individual funders, planning fundraising and special events, and identifying grant opportunities and writing successful proposals.

Marketing & Communications

Own the agency’s solicitation and communications materials, build and execute an annual communications plan, manage media relations and press releases, represent the CAC in public speaking engagements, and oversee our donor database, website, and social media presence.

Education & Outreach

Oversee our community outreach and child abuse prevention education programs while building and maintaining relationships with community partners.

Who You Are

You bring heart and strategy in equal measure. You can write a donor appeal that moves someone to give, keep a fundraising calendar and a grant deadline straight without missing a beat, and lead a team with warmth and accountability.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, business, public relations, or a related field or 10+ years of directly related professional experience may substitute for the degree requirement
• Minimum five years of experience in fundraising or nonprofit relations, with a record of actively securing gifts from a wide variety of funding sources
• Minimum three years of management/supervisory experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to work independently and as part of a team
• Proven public speaking and presentation skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of audiences
• Strong organizational, multitasking, team-building, and conflict-resolution skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fundraising/donor management software; experience with publication and web design a plus

Strongly Preferred

• Experience in child welfare, victim services, or social services sectors
• Knowledge of the Hamilton County/Chattanooga community and nonprofit landscape
